Eric the Grey. I've had this error while trying to install two different applications under Win 7. The full error I get is: Error Verify that the path exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it.
I had this problem while trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I had already installed the reader, and had only just gotten around to installing the full version this was a week later. The folders were different for that, and the solution was to delete the folder in question. I cannot do this with Office. The above error is from my attempt to install Office Pro I have manually checked the permissions of the entire structure and made certain that I have full permissions to each folder up to and including the Start Menu folder.
All except the Start Menu I can change those permissions, but the check-marks are grayed out. I have also found that when I delete files from other drives, I am prompted for elevated rights before the delete will happen.
I suspected file permissions were left over from previous Vista install are the cause of all these problems. I had to do this when I installed Vista on my additional drives. There I didn't have the problem with the C: drive because it was a full install, and the drive was formatted before the installation. My setup is: Windows 7 Pro, upgrade from Vista, both bit.
I believe the problem to be inherited file permissions from my previous Vista installation, but I cannot be certain, and my attempts to change them have proven unsuccessful. Also, I have the one and only account on the system, aside from the default Administrator account. There are no passwords because I have no need to lock my computer down at home. So any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated. I need to have Office installed soon as classes start up again on Monday, and I prefer to use my desktop to type on natural keyboard instead of my laptop.
